Act-On names Kate Johnson CEO, Consolidates to Portland, and Doubles Down on Product Innovation

Kate Johnson served as Act-On’s CFO for the past three years and has extensive executive leadership experience in both public and private technology companies, across all stages of the business lifecycle.

Portland, Oregon – January 4, 2018 – Today Act-On, the leading provider of adaptive marketing solutions for fast-growing businesses, announced that its board of directors has appointed Kate Johnson as the company’s new CEO. Johnson replaces outgoing CEO Andy MacMillan.

Johnson served as Act-On’s CFO for the past three years and has extensive executive leadership experience in both public and private technology companies, across all stages of the business lifecycle.

“Kate has been fundamental to the growth and day-to-day operations of Act-On over the past three years. She is the right leader to consolidate operations in the vibrant Portland technology ecosystem and guide the company through this next phase of growth,” said Diane Fraiman, Voyager Capital Partner and Act-On board member and investor.

Act-On will consolidate its North American operations in its Portland, Oregon Headquarters where customer-facing areas of the organization will now work side by side with the product development organization, bringing the voice of the customer closer to the product development teams.

The company plans to expand its Portland presence, hiring up to fifty new employees in the first half of 2018, primarily in its engineering and customer service organizations. These additional investments will accelerate the pace of delivery on the company’s customer-centric adaptive marketing platform, which anticipates customer behaviors, uses that data to automatically adapt and deliver messages for more customized — and more effective — marketing engagements.

“We see a window of opportunity in the marketplace, driven by the fact that marketers need more than just automation. We have determined that we need an immediate, intense focus on delivering product innovation to take advantage of it,” said Kate Johnson, Act-On CEO. “This is a rebalancing of our resources where more investment will now go toward product development and integrating our operations, allowing us to leapfrog competitors and provide a marketing solution that anticipates behaviors, automates marketing processes and accelerates time to revenue.”

Act-On’s Northern California facilities in Roseville and San Mateo will close, and selected employees will be offered relocation to Portland. In addition, the company will have minor headcount reductions in other locations.
