Featured eBook: The CMO’s Five Most Important Initiatives
How marketing executives are focused on building brand, driving demand, and expanding customer relationships.
Marketing technology is the backbone of today’s marketing, and it was good news to see MarTech headcount increases 8 percent year over year in the fourth quarter of 2017.
Brian Wieser, reported to be the most quoted man in advertising, tracks headcount for both advertising and marketing technology companies via LinkedIn.
“Ad tech and marketing tech are the tools driving operations of the advertising and marketing industries,” he wrote in his Headcount Tracker for 4Q17 report. “Related companies are therefore important for investors focused upon internet-based advertising, agency services, measurement services and enterprise software.”
In this week’s podcast episode, we talk with Brian about the role of a equity research analyst, about his research methodology, and his views on the MarTech industry.
“I think there’s a there there,” he said.
According to the AdTech/MarTech Headcount Tracker, companies focused primarily on marketing tech were growing faster than those focused primarily on ad tech. Overall, the more than 280 companies Wieser tracked, which represent more than 100,000 employees and $25 billion in annual net revenue, expanded headcount by about 8 percent during the quarter compared to a year earlier.
